The diffusion of artificial intelligence (AI) tools is profoundly transforming the way academic research is conceived, developed, and evaluated. This research seminar aims to critically examine both the opportunities and the challenges associated with the use of AI in the processes of research design, paper development, and peer review. By bringing together editorial perspectives and emerging scholarly practices, the seminar seeks to foster a nuanced and responsible understanding of AI in academic publishing.
From an editorial perspective, the integration of AI introduces complexities. While AI may enhance efficiency, it also raises concerns regarding bias embedded in algorithms, the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts, and the potential misuse of AI tools to generate or manipulate reviews. Editors are increasingly confronted with questions such as: To what extent is AI-assisted writing acceptable? How should AI use be disclosed by authors? Can AI be legitimately used in the review process, and under what conditions?
