At the department of Management (DiPSA) at the university of Bergamo, public engagement is a key component of our third mission. We are committed to sharing knowledge and co-creating solutions with the broader community, locally, nationally, and internationally. Through ongoing collaboration with institutions, schools, civil society organisations, and local authorities, our department actively contributes to the cultural, social, and economic development of our region and beyond.

Our public engagement activities are based on principles of inclusiveness, accessibility, and impact. They allow us to translate research into action, raise awareness on major societal issues, and strengthen the bond between the academic world and the communities it serves.

Since 2018, the University of Bergamo has been a member of the Steering Committee of APEnet (Italian Network of Universities and Research Institutions for Public Engagement). This national platform promotes the culture of public engagement and fosters the coordination and sharing of outreach strategies and practices across Italy.

Faculty members at DiPSA participate in advisory boards, policy-making working groups, and roundtables at local, regional, and national levels. These contributions support evidence-based decision-making and the definition of best practices in areas such as business innovation, sustainability, corporate governance, and economic development.

Education and awareness initiatives

he department organises and contributes to events aimed at non-academic audiences, including:

  • public lectures and thematic seminars on economics, management, and finance;
  • events and workshops during Open Days to introduce key business topics to prospective students and the general public;
  • dissemination of research findings through publications and media outreach.

DiPSA professors frequently act as speakers, moderators, or scientific advisors in third-party initiatives promoted by public and private institutions, including professional associations, foundations, and schools.

Financial education and economic literacy

We actively promote financial education projects across all levels of schooling and in public spaces. These initiatives aim to foster responsible economic behaviour, improve individual financial skills, and support greater inclusion. Examples include:

  • educational outreach programmes in schools and universities;
  • seminars in collaboration with local banks and consumer associations;
  • dissemination of accessible materials on economic citizenship.
